One of the niyamas (positive duties) of yogic tradition is svadhyaya (self-study). This book club will undertake the study of texts that are intended to advance one's understanding of how to apply yogic principles to life beyond the mat. Our January selection is The Great Work of Your Life: A Guide for the Journey to Your True Calling by Stephen Cope. This book explores how to apply the principles of the Bhagavad Gita to discover your true calling, or dharma, by exploring the lives of contemporary and historical figures such as Harriet Tubman, Walt Whitman, and Jane Goodall, to name a few. Previous reading of the Bhagavad Gita is not required, as Cope explains the relevant concepts in the text.
