RX Yoga for Psychological Stability & Healing: Therapy on the Mat — with Debra Marks
February 28 @ 7:00 pm$108
Six Week Series
Thursdays, 7:00 to 8:30 pm
February 28 — April 4
This prescription works as a primary holistic intervention in achieving psychological health, or as a supplement to a more traditionally psychiatric approach. If you experience symptoms such as overwhelming stress, emotional dysregulation, cognitive interference, or social issues, this six-week series is for you.
We will create a psychological momentum that boosts and guides your energies toward healing, mastery and the acceptance of self, others and of our life experience as a whole. You are warmly invited to join this supportive group, coming together with yogic principles and scientifically-based psychotherapy strategies to explore how to connect with and ultimately heal all parts of ourselves, even those parts that we may label as out of our control, undesirable, difficult or even harmful. Each week focuses on a specific psychological experience as related to depression, anxiety, traumatic response, impulsivity, or addictive cravings.
Sessions include discussion, movement, guided meditation, music and exploring personal mantra. Aromatherapy and gentle somatic therapy will also be offered. Sessions end with a brief period of silent reflection and journaling.
Yes. Believe in it, trust it. When our minds are quiet and our bodies still, we can hear the calling of the heart, and feel the brilliance of the spirit. When we clear away that which hides us from our true nature, we walk a path that is truly our own. I am honored to walk along this path with you.
Debra Marks, Psy.D is a licensed clinical psychologist, yoga instructor and adjunct faculty at Virginia Western Community College. She has been practicing psychology with individuals, families and groups for more than 25 years in Colorado, Oregon, and Virginia. Debra is the owner of Dharmatherapies, an outpatient clinical psychotherapy and yoga practice in Roanoke, Virginia. She completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training in 2014 at Uttara Studio under Jill Loftis (Kriya yoga) and Katie Silcox (Sri-Vidya Tantra / Ayurveda); she has since trained in restorative, contemplative and devotional yoga. Debra walks a path of Bhakti yoga, the practice of love and devotion to the divine that is particularly expressed through vibrations and music. She describes herself as an “acoustic historian,” forever curious about the personal narration of music and song that we use to create and define ourselves across the year.
