Guiding the Quiet Revolution: Yin Yoga Teacher Training with Richard Gartner
Saturday, September 9, 9:00 am to Noon; 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Sunday, September 10, 9:00 am to Noon; 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm

$250 for the weekend; $225 for 300 hour YTT and UYTT gradsYin Yoga is the art of insightful relaxation, personal acceptance and contemplative awareness. Those who have experienced it are rejuvenated and transformed. The practice consists of long relaxed holds with an emphasis on the connective tissue and joints of the hips, pelvis and lower spine. It allows students to focus deeper into the body.

This specialized 12 hour training examines the following:

      • —Anatomical considerations in pose selection
—Prop and non-prop modifications
—The role of language to enhance the Yin experience
—Yin sequencing

—Yin Yoga Philosophy
—Techniques on incorporating Yin into a general class

The training includes a manual for continued reference. Students will appreciate your addition of Yin Yoga to their practice, and this training will enhance your own yoga sadhana.

Often yoga’s physical practice is marketed as “more, hotter, faster”, but more and more students are getting wise to this unattainable acceleration. Yin Yoga’s philosophy of stillness and independence counters this frenzied rush. Empower your students!

Richard’s style is paradoxically both unique and universal. His instructions allow for any student to approach the practice, embracing all levels of experience and ability. This allows for anybody to explore their own unique structure and make every practice their own.

This philosophy is carried over to Onward Facing Yoga, an app Richard released in September 2015. The eleven sequences on Onward Facing Yoga playfully explore various aspects of yoga philosophy, anatomy and breathwork, at various levels of challenge. This results in a robust yoga curriculum that allows anybody to listen inward and choose a practice that’s right for them.

Richard’s approach is influenced by his primary teacher, Tias Little. Tias developed Prajna Yoga, which means ‘the yoga of deep insight.’ Tias describes Prajna Yoga as a ‘style-less style’, where the yoga should fit the student and not the other way around.

For Richard, this ‘style-less style’ means a yoga practice should be vibrant, in-the-moment and multi-disciplinary. His teachings fuse traditional posture and breathwork with contemporary anatomy and bodywork. He draws from many forms of yoga, fascial release, mindfulness techniques, and common sense.

This training is perfect for anyone suffering from pain caused by chronic tension or stress, as well as for yoga teachers, educators and medical professionals who are interested in using these therapies for their students and patients.

Our brains are the command center of our beings. We can change the way we move, feel, and think through changing our neural pathways. Most of us are on automatic pilot much of the time. In order to make changes in our bodies and our minds, we need to retrain our brains. This involves slowing down and consciously changing patterns that no longer serve us.

Brain Based Yoga Therapy in based on Hanna Somatic Education and addresses the root cause of muscle tightness: the communication loop between your brain and your muscles. You will be introduced to the brain research behind this method and learn slow, mindful, cortically controlled movements to release tense muscles. These movements stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing the effects of stress on our bodies and minds. They are a perfect antidote to many modern day issues causing chronic tension such as repetitive movements, anxiety and fast paced living.

In this training, you will learn:

  • A simple explanation of the brain science behind Brain Based Yoga Therapy.
  • How to release muscle groups that tend to hold chronic tension such as low back, shoulders, neck, quads, and hamstrings.
  • The theory of ‘going with’ rather than ‘fighting against’ tension and why it works.
