Mondays at Noon – New Class Format – Focused Power Flow with Sarah Bowles
Each week of the month we will focus on strengthening and stretching a particular muscle group. The first week of each month we will focus on core, working to strengthen and elongate the abdominals, lower back and glutes. The second week we focus on arm strength, playing with arm balances and inversions. The third week we will focus on the legs, emphasizing warrior poses, squats, balances and forward folds. The last week of each month will be a full body power flow, bringing it all together. Modifications offered as you work up to an intense power practice, all levels welcome.
Tuesdays at 3:30 pm – New Class Format – All Level Flow with Wendi Wagner
An all-level class that emphasizes proper alignment and movement linked with breath. Intelligent, mindful sequencing of poses that build internal heat and focus in preparation for a full fifteen-minute savasana and meditation practice.  All levels welcome, poses will be modified or advanced based on your level of yoga practice.

Restorative Yoga/Yoga Nidra with Susi Hutchison

Sound Savasana (FREE or donation class) with Kimberly Vest
Sundays, 6:30 – 7:00 p.m. Only on June 11, July 16, August 20
This monthly class (dates noted on schedule) will take you into a deeper state of relaxation. Kimberly will use singing bowls and different instruments to create sounds that promote healing vibrations. When the body and mind are fully relaxed, this is when the body can truly heal and repair itself. A typical sound savasana experience will include laying on the floor while being supported by props and blankets as the sound washes over you. All you need is an open mind and heart to experience the benefits of this special class.

Explore the teachings of the Yoga Sutra in this group study series designed to dive into the ancient teachings of yoga. Class sessions will include translations and interpretations of each of the Sanskrit verses.The Yoga Sutras are considered one of the most important and ancient texts referencing the system of yoga. The word sutra means “thread” and these short, concise threads of information offer an avenue of exploring yoga beyond the physical practice.Focus: the first book of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra, Samadhi Pada, Chapter on Absorption. This study series will encourage group discussion and reflection on the application of the sacred teachings in daily life and in the broader context of the collective. Group meditation will be a part of each session.

Inappropriate Music Class to Benefit Girls Rock with Jill Loftis

Join Jill Loftis for an all-level flow class featuring all the music you love but that doesn’t normally make the playlist in a yoga class. We’ll post this event to Facebook and take requests for your favorite head-bopping toe-tapping favorites that have lyrics that normally would be considered taboo. All of the proceeds from the class will be donated to Girls Rock Roanoke, an all-volunteer, community-based organization whose primary focus is to empower girls and women through music, creative expression and collaboration while supporting positive change in their own lives and communities.

The natal chart is an excellent tool for self-awareness; what does your natal chart tell you about how you are perceived by your students? What can it show you about how your mind works and how you speak? We will be looking very specifically at your Sun and your Rising sign to determine how it shifts how you are perceived, as well as looking at your Mercury and it’s placement, sign and aspects to determine how your mind works and how that translates into your communication with your students and your world. Space is very limited so that we can really dig into the charts; please pre-register.

Much of a yoga teacher’s anatomy studies include the building blocks: the individual muscles, tendons, ligaments and bones. While this is instructive and necessary, it is difficult to show students how they are a part of the whole. When put in the context of fascial lines, however, our anatomy and practice come to life. This series illustrates how students can connect the dots of felt sense and experience wholeness in their practice.
– The lateral line session explores the “body brackets” and left-to-right asymmetry.
– The spiral line workshop investigates twists and allows the organic body to receive the benefits of the practice.
– The dorsal line session addresses back body, which includes the densest and strongest tendons in our system.
– The ventral and core lines workshop explores anatomical backbends and metaphorically opens possibilities.
It then puts it all the lines together and explores our sense of self through stability and inversion.
Richard explains how these lines course through the body from head to toe. He then will lead a focused fascial practice to explore the lines in a logical way. There will be plenty of opportunity for discussion and questions. Bring your curiosity, something to write with and your sense of exploration.

You graduated from a teacher training program; and perhaps you’re teaching; you want to keep growing and learning; we can help! This program is designed to bring along a select group of students to grow stronger in their practices in order to transmit the sacred teachings of yoga and grow into the role of yoga teacher. This program includes personal spiritual and sadhana guidance as well as tips and techniques to continue to grow as a powerful teacher. Prerequisites include a 200-hour yoga certification OR the equivalent experience teaching yoga.

The Magic of Mantra; Kirtan and Chanting In Yoga Classes with Jill Loftis

Mantra is a powerful tool for shifting consciousness and energy. Working with the repetition of sacred phrases is a gift you can offer your students in many different ways. We’ll discuss the use of music in yoga classes, the use of sound and Nada yoga, as well as introduce you to kirtan and how to work with call and response chanting. Several mantras will be introduced and practiced, and you will have opportunities to play with the harmonium and singing bowls. Open to yoga teachers as well as yoga students who are interested in chanting and deepening their spiritual practice with mantra.

Mudra is a type of non-verbal communication. An every day example of a mudra is the wave of the hand. It communicates hello or good-bye. There are other gestures that we understand very directly such as the gesture for “come here” or “stop”. There are more subtle forms of non-verbal communication like posture or a tilt of the head. These can all be classified as mudra.
There are also specific mudras (gestures or seals) studied by yogic sages that are meant for internal communication with one’s own mind, energy body, and/or physical body. In this workshop you will learn mudras for communicating with your own system in order to create more balance and ease. These will include gestures or seals made with hands, feet, tongue, and full body.
